Esther Bible Study-Week One

I am so excited to have this blog. Thank you Elizabeth for setting it up for our group. I have been so enjoying learning about the history of Esther and learning so much about myself, too. It really would be interesting to know more about Queen Vashti and her reasons for having a party seperate from her King husband. Was it because she disrespected him and wanted to do her own thing? Did he treat her badly to begin with? Or was she just a totally independent woman and wanted to have nothing to do with him telling her what to do? I sort of indentified a little too much with Queen Vashti in her independence. What does anyone else think?

  1. I wonder if Queen Vashti's independence was justified. If one considers the request that her husband was making of her; to come and display herself naked amongst his drunken friends so they could lust after her. Do we do all that is requested of us even if it is unjust.. not right... immoral?

  2. It definitely is a love and respect thing, isn't it?! Day 5 pretty much spelled that out this morning as I was doing my study. If a husband loves his wife as Christ loves the church, a woman will have no trouble giving him the respect he so much desires of her. It's kind of a "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" type of thing. Does love come first, or respect. The point is, it doesn't matter. The cycle continues on. As my husband loves me, the more I want to show him respect. Which makes him love more and me respect more.....and on and on. Sometimes that cycle gets broken. Because of my humaness. And his. Queen Vashti was not loved by her King husband, he requested immoral things of her under wrong circumstances, therefore, she did not respect him. Nor would I.
